Scarecrow costumes are popular scary apparel. They were commonly used to scare off birds and such that were trying to eat a farmers crop. They were effective at scaring children and some adults especially at night. They appear so ominous. The Wizard of Oz cemented the scarecrow into our culture. We all want or need courage.
A good scarecrow needs to have an over-sized flannel shirt, some straw, and faded jeans with patches and a weird hat. Stuff the jeans and shirt with plastic grocery bags and leave a little straw hanging out of the shirt and jeans. The appearance of straw innards goes a long way to convincingly portray a nonliving being presence. A little stage makeup will complete your scarecrow costume.
